Tanabata

Tanabata is the night that the 'Milky Way Railroad' is set on, their is an excited atmosphere that has all the children very excited which leaves Giovanni feeling very isolated as he has to take care of his sick mother. Tanabata is a star festival in Japan celebrating the stars Vega and Altair which are separated by the milky way. It is celebrated on the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar and is normally celebrated with Obon (celebration of the dead). Celebrations include making wish trees, writing wishes on small pieces of paper and tying them to bamboo.

I came across this installation by Ebony Bizy which was inspired by Tanabata festival.

Reminds me a lot of the shapes and colours I like about Merijn Hos' work.
